alt-j - 3WW
oh my gosh, this song is SO good! as if wandering the hallways, veering into different songs, one minute there's hints of west african tones, then it's a beautiful duet (featuring ellie roswell from wolf alice) next to a fuzzy trippy number, which surprisingly all makes total sense. it's kind of genius and kicks off anticipation of their new album 'relaxer'. chill never sounded so exciting!!

VIDEO PREMIERE: lorde - green light

lorde - green light
to call this brand new material from lorde 'highly anticipated' is a bit of an understatement since it's been almost 4 years that we've gotten a taste of the new zealand indie superstar's last hit. co-written by jack antonoff of fun., this is lorde's version of a 'f.u.' song post breakup with dazzling disco grooves and indie chaos. it's apropos that the new album is called 'melodrama' don't you think? welcome back our fave indie pop kiwi, we can't wait to hear what else you have in store for us this year!

it's been a quick rise from getting the thumbs up from pharrell during a student listening session to releasing her 3rd catchy single in less than a year for young maggie rogers. wonderfully composed and focused in who she is as an artist, if maggie continues to put out stuff like this, then 2017 will be a big year for her. nice one.

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: elbow - gentle storm

elbow - gentle storm
who'd of thought that new directions of the band (lead singer guy garvey settled down and has a show on bbc radio 6, original drummer richard jupp left) would allow for elbow to come back with a new album that sounds so effortlessly classy. kicking off with the breezy awesomeness of 'gentle storm' keep an eye around the midway mark for some cumberbatch action too!

VIDEO PREMIERE: 2ne1 - goodbye

2ne1 - goodbye
here it is... one of kpop's biggest girl bands releases their final single in the form of this acoustic number which also showcases a threesome instead of the original four. 2ne1 really paved the way for kpop acts breaking international barriers and their brand of sassy multi influenced pop set a blueprint for what pop could sound like (wackadoo awesomeness!) as they venture into solo pursuits, the group itself will be sorely missed.

what a wonderful new video by paul b. cummings & producer jean-francois perrier! showing off a seemingly banal day in the life of yelle (aka julie budet), with her 'shadow' played by comedian nathan barnatt in tow. whats funny and visually disruptive (as the shadow flails everywhere) turns glorious when the two find themselves sympatico during the day. you gotta watch this simple and lovely new gem from our favorite quirky french indie pop star!

the hamilton mixtape: kelly clarkson / the roots feat busta rhymes, joell ortiz & nate ruess

after much talk about a mixtape curated and produced by hamilton creator lin manuel miranda, we are FINALLY getting to hear the results in advance of it's december 2nd release. don't worry we will be updating these tracks as soon as they're available!

kelly clarkson - it's quiet uptown
how fascinating to spin the song from a mother's perspective. kelly clarkson's version is a completely different take on what is probably the most emotional crux of the hamilton score and it's equally heartbreaking. try to not cry when the words "forgiveness" is sung. brilliant!

the roots feat busta rhymes, joell ortiz & nate ruess - my shot
OMG the busta rhymes section is EVERYTHING!!

AUDIO BUZZ: beyonce feat dixie chicks - daddy lessons

beyonce feat dixie chicks - daddy lessons
with a collaboration that celebrates how artists will always have music in common, the beyonce/dixie chicks union has caused some big talk on what it means to be 'country' when the collective went on the CMA awards two nights ago. making their first appearance in years after being shunted by nashville for being politically vocal, the dixie chicks not only came back in style but brought on the queen bey to add to their defiance. beyonce hopefully reminded country music fans that so much of their roots came from bluegrass/soul music therefore making her attendance totally valid. either way the re-recording of 'daddy lessons' has all the spirit of a foot stompin party which at the end of the day, isn't that what we really want to be listening to on a friday!

not sure how long this will stay up, but here is the controversial / wonderful cma awards performance that has everyone talking:

beyonce & dixie chicks - daddy lessons
